Keep Track of Domoic Acid Levels in Washington
Shellfish, such as clams, may be infected with domoic acid, a toxin produced naturally by some algae. This toxin can be dangerous or even lethal to humans if eaten. To prevent people from ingesting contaminated shellfish, WDFW routinely collects clams from various ocean beaches and provides them to the Washington Department of Health to test for domoic acid.
Check the current and historic domoic acid levels for different beaches.
